Raw Food Supplier Started with Joanna... Introducing Sirova

By Matt - Posted on 12 January 2010

In the last few months I've been building a new site for Sirova, a group selling Raw FoodRaw foodists believe that food that hasn't been treated with chemicals and excessive heat is more nutritious than foods that have not been subjected to such treatment.

The business was started by my wife, a friend, and myself.  We're concentrating mostly on foods that we ourselves eat, and very good snacks produced in a sustainable and fair trade manner.  Things like chia seeds, raw cacao (and cacao butter) for making your own raw chocolates, and raw food kits thoughtfully prepared by Joanna to help people get their diet sorted out more easily, and sample some of the more common raw food products that are out there.

There are a few apects of the site designed to help customers get advice and give feedback.  Most products allow members to comment on them, and there is a raw food forum in place for sharing recipes.  Joanna is also posting a lot of easy to make raw recipes that anyone can comment on and share their ideas.

The technology behind the site is fairly straightforward:  A Drupal base, with an Ubercart shopping cart and quite a few modules.  Drupal is a bit hard on the MySQL server, but with some tuning it has gotten a little faster.  Customers can currently pay with Google Checkout and Paypal.  We'll be adding regular credit cards soon.
